I love this time of year. Amber gold leaves carpet the sycamore tree outside my window, and wispy mist floats waist high over the fields, like an American horror movie at sunrise.
Oh, and who could forget the Concept2 Skeleton Crew Challenge!
This year, when I mentioned I was going to take part, my 6-year-old daughter surprised me by asking if she could attempt it too.
She’s very competitive so there was no way I was going to talk her out of it, besides it was nice to have a training partner spur me on too :)
It was her first time on the Concept2 rower, so we set her a smaller challenge of 3,500 meters over the allocated 7 days (the official challenge is 10,000 meters for under 16’s). By day 2 she had hit the 3.5k and was raring to go for the full 10k.
It took her 6 days to complete 10,500 meters (one of those was a rest day as she slept over at nannies). Last time I looked, she was the youngest in the UK on the Honor Board.
To say I’m proud is an understatement - she gave it her all and made it look easy! I only hope she has the same enthusiasm for the 2023 challenge. 👻
